The transition from the mystery, intensity, and power of Scorpio season into the expansion, optimism, and indulgence of Sagittarius season is a palpable one.
We lighten up. We swap out 10-foot front yard skeletons for twinkly lights. After contemplating the inevitability of death during Samhain, Halloween and All Souls Day, we decide we may as well enjoy this life we’re living. We come together in thanksgiving, we look at all we are grateful for, we share food and laughs. Sure – we indulge a bit more, we spend more than we should, but it’s all in the name of love and family and connection. We celebrate.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the Santa Claus myth comes into our collective consciousness during Sagittarius season. In fact, whenever I try to connect to the sign of the Centaur - or the planet Jupiter, which it rules - I think, “What would Santa do?”
Santa would eat that cookie, give a gift or a hug or a slap on the back. The twinkle in his eye belies a little mischievousness, but one that is based in kindness. This is the essence of Sagittarius season. Live large, love big, and laugh hard. Yes, it’s cliche. But its also vital, because if we let the shadows of Scorpio or the criticism of Capricorn overwhelm us, this can be a depressing time of year.
Set the intention during this Sagittarius New Moon to lighten up some more. To embrace good food, good company, and shared experiences. To be generous. To trust in the spirit of the season and greet its inevitable stressors with a sense of humor - one of the greatest gifts of the sign of Sagittarius.
