The Lion’s Gate Portal blends astrological and astronomical understanding with numerology and esoteric systems. While many modern astrologers do not take this essentially new age phenomenon very seriously, myself included, there ARE some pretty serious transits occurring right around the assigned August 8th date absolutely worth a closer investigation.
Leo Season started off with a roar, yet a somewhat more internal roar, as Mercury was about 4 days into the start of its retrograde through Leo. This retrograde, lasting through most of Leo Season, tunes the mind to pause, reflect, review, and rethink. If we resist retrograde energies, the universe will find a way to initiate pause, be it with unexpected blunders, obstacles, or other hiccups especially in communication or understanding.
This reflective energy of Mercury sets the ambiance for the Lion’s Gate Portal, as our Heavy Hitters shift into the spotlight. And if Mercury is our stage crew, the star of the show is most certainly Mars. On August 6th, Mars ingresses into the sign Libra, a very tense and uncomfortable energy for the Warrior Planet. When a planet is uncomfortable in a sign it essentially means it might have trouble expressing itself there, or its expressions might seem somewhat stranger than usual, taking on the qualities of the contrasting zodiac sign. Libra, being so relational, peaceful, calm, and balancing… and Mars: all things active, aggravated, and exhilarated. The Planet of Passion could have a very hard time initiating and asserting within the frequency of Libra, however this spicy red sphere has the 4 outer celestial giants welcoming its Libran ingress with promises of hefty collaboration… or perhaps substantial upset.
Whenever we are talking about Mars in the sky, we are asking: are you going to be the hunter or the hunted? If you take too long in deciding, Mars will decide for you. And in the case of our August 2025 Mars, collaboration first starts with Uranus and all its shocking, chaotic affiliations. While we will be feeling the harmonious collaboration between warrior Mars and revolutionary Uranus as soon as the wall calendar switches to “August,” we hit an absolutely pinnacle of energetic synthesis on August 8th. The Lion’s Gate promise of “advanced spiritual intelligence” certainly feels embodied in this aspect! Uranus in Gemini is now, and for the next 8 years, ready to deliver shocking insights, unexpected information, and completely unforeseen perspective shifts both internally and out in the world. This is the first time since Uranus moved into the sign Gemini in early July that Uranus and Mars are in conversation via an aspect pattern. So what could that mean with Mars’s Libran energy? Well, we are blending Chaos and Action…. Shock with Aggression… let’s just use our imaginations! It will be particularly important around the Lion’s Gate Portal date of August 8th to pause and reflect whenever taking in new information, new perceptions, or new ideas. Mercury Retrograde is an energy we are all intimately familiar with at this point, Mercury coming to the end of its retrograde cycle on August 11th. Lean into all the skills you have developed over the past month with pausing to absorb, thinking before we speak, and almost more importantly: thinking before you subscribe to any new outlooks. A lower expression of Mars in Libra can be lying, and we are blending in the shock of Uranus with the communication-oriented sign Gemini. Be on the lookout for half-truths, mistruths, and misspoken communication. This is less about finding the villain, and more about building resilience in the wake of uncertainty, real or imagined.
Later, on August 8th, Mars hits an exact opposition to Saturn. Traditional Astrological interpretations might have you taking out an insurance plan to specifically cover August 8th and all its events—our solar system's two Malefic Planets experiencing stark tension in the sky, Mars in Libra being not the only one uncomfortable with its zodiac sign! Saturn has some trouble in Aries: such a hot an active sign, while Saturn is a cold and patient planet, far less impulsive than Aries and in that far more disciplined and determined. Action versus restriction. Hurry up yet brace for impact. Saturn is asking us to get serious, and the question remains: do you have the courage to do what needs to be done? Saturn/Mars combinations can be very uncomfortable, and perhaps leaning into uncomfortable pause is going to be how this energy best manifests itself for many people. Do you feel called to Mars’s action or Saturn’s stoicism? Pulled between both is more like it!
And as if the Mars-Uranus-Saturn conversation wasn’t enough—a few hours later we experience the Aquarius Full Moon: fraught with revolutionary epiphanies, urgency to manifest for the future, and an abondance of unforeseen revelations pouring into minds open enough and quiet enough to receive them. Don’t be too weary of this Full Moon, it is full of all of the magic and potential that any Full Moon can be. Caution comes into the conversation when clinging to any sudden realizations that come through under its intense energy… remember: we have transits going on that support the perpetuation of lies and mistruths. Lies don’t always come from external sources—make sure you are aware of illusions and delusions. Remember the hunter and the hunted? Don’t become hunted by your own misperceptions.
We aren’t out of the woods yet, and it’s only August 9th! With Saturn and Neptune so close in the sky, an aspect to one will soon be followed by an aspect to the other, and here comes the Mars-Neptune opposition. Everything said before about illusion versus delusion steps out onto the main stage of the mind as Mars makes yet another major aspect to another celestial giant: Neptune. While Neptune’s energy might seem somewhat more friendly or compassionate than Saturn; the planet is described as the higher octave of Venus, so there is some truth to that impression. However, this is once again not a transit for the faint of heart. Neptune dissolves. Mars takes action. Perhaps you thought you had a plan, thought you had understanding, thought you had things all figured out. In comes Neptune, and suddenly we aren’t even sure what questions are being asked! Dizzying affect would be the best way to describe this crescendo into Saturday. And thank goodness this is all culminating on a weekend, because self-care in the way of this energetic feast will certainly be necessary!
The final body in Mars’s planetary receiving line: Pluto. Early on Sunday morning, Mars makes its final contact with the outer planets when it trines Pluto: God of Hell. I’m really not trying to be dramatic, however, doesn’t that seem a bit dramatic! The harmonious trine means energy is flowing easily between these two planets, moving through two air signs: Aquarius and Libra. While Pluto and Mars might seem aligned in many ways, both with their affinity for Scorpio and all its intensity, activation, and at times rage, their mutual understanding of one another, plus placements in elementally similar signs, one thing is for sure: the aspect will have an easy time expressing itself! Mars and Pluto want to interact, they want to lean on each other, and in a trine, the contact is unrestricted. Perhaps the deep transformative nature of Pluto will put Mars’s active will into high gear, welcoming the martial motivation and vitality in a way that Uranus, Saturn, and Neptune all aren’t quite as appreciative of. If you are feeling suddenly called to upend your goals, dreams, relationships, alliances… does everything feel worthy of a revolutionary shift? It very well all could be! But be wary that you don’t interpretate Mars and Pluto’s tolerance and tendency towards action to be quite as imperative as it can feel in the moment. You have time. We are still very much in a planning phase overall; however, mental gymnastics are encouraged!
I'm not going to leave you hanging; there is a beautiful ending to this power packed play of energies… and that comes August 12th. Mercury, having stationed direct on August 11th, subtly yet securely permits moving into a more active space. And then, like a flock of doves taking flight, we will experience Venus in the sky come into a conjunction with Jupiter: the two traditional benefic planets in a powerful alignment embodying the sensitive, nurturing, healing energy of Cancer. How are you going to show love to yourself and/or others in order to invite rejuvenation? How can you restore an abundance of emotional balance in your life? These aren’t questions for now.. these are questions for post Lion’s Gate Portal you. The you of next week, of your next chapter. With the Venus-Jupiter conjunction happening in Cancer, the cardinal water sign, we know this fusion is squaring our Mars-Saturn/Neptune opposition. Copious amounts of cardinal energy! What does cardinal energy want? Initiation. But first things first, one step at a time, respect the process. The other angle of this aspect pattern is: in any aspect pattern with a focal planet, we focus on the engine not the apex. This means we focus on the Mars in Libra, and the Saturn/Neptune in Aries side of things. If we are able to affectively balance this axis of energy, the Cancer expression is going to take Care of itself. Allow the vision, the practicality, the tension to play out. Feel into the truth of the matter, the right next steps, when to be hot and when to lean cold, and the healing will flow to you as a gift of the universe. In abundance.
